Update on the implementation of the EU Animal Health Law
The new EU Animal Health Law is due to come into force on 21 April 2021, and this Law will affect Thoroughbred movements to the EU.
However, whilst not yet formally ratified, it is the Thoroughbred Brexit Steering Group’s understanding that the technical experts at the EU have approved a delay to the application of the new rules for equine exports, such that existing Export Health Certificates will be valid until 21 August 2021. The TBA's advice at this time is therefore to continue to use existing Export Health Certificates and to test for both EIA and EVA as part of the export process, until the new EU Animal Health Law's Export Health Certificates come into effect.
The TBA will issue further advice when the final position on the timing of implementation of this aspect of the EU Animal Health Law is confirmed.
