Guidance for travelling horses to France

The French authorities have published guides for a smooth crossing through Border Inspection Posts.

An illustrated guide can be downloaded here. This document provides relevant links to applicable procedures, and making appointments before transporting animals to France.

A checklist for horse travel can be downloaded here. This document includes top tips for travelling your horses, including:

  • Checking the designated status and opening hours of the Border Inspection Post (BIP) at the destination
  • Applying for an Export Health Certificate (EHC), sometimes referred to as a Sanitary Certificate (SC)
  • Entering a prenotification in TRACES-NT system
  • Providing invoices or receipts to prove the origin of materials (e.g. feed and bedding)
