Elite Mares Scheme and Online NH Stallion Nomination Auction
APPLICATIONS FOR 2025 ELITE MARES SCHEME OPEN WITH ONLINE AUCTION OF NH STALLION NOMINATIONS NOW LIVE
For Immediate Release: Friday 17 January 2025
British National Hunt mare owners are encouraged to make use of the 2025 Elite Mares’ Scheme, for which applications are being taken until 31 January 2025. Funded by the Levy Board and run by the TBA, the scheme in 2025 offers increased grants of up to £4,500 to TBA full members who own mares with a rating of 130+ or who have produced a runner rated 130+ (mare) or 140+ (gelding). These grants either subsidise, or in some cases offer completely free nominations to 24 British-based NH stallions which are eligible and have been nominated by their managers under the terms of the scheme.
TBA NH Committee Chairman, Simon Cox, said: “Britain has a high percentage of elite mares within its NH broodmare ranks and this scheme provides a valuable incentive to TBA members who own such mares to cover them in Britain. Increased Levy Board funding of the Elite Mares Scheme allows us to continue this momentum in 2025. Grant values will increase, and more proven broodmares will qualify as we have equalised the rating bands criteria for broodmares and race mares. We are grateful to the Levy Board for their increased, and continued support of the scheme.
“The scheme rewards both mares who have proven themselves on the track and at stud already, as well as giving British stallions the best opportunity of establishing themselves, all of which will directly increase the quality of jumps horses being bred in Britain. We encourage NH mare owners to use it with the closing date for applications at the end of January.”
Success stories include small breeder, John Perriss, who first used the scheme in 2016 when sending his mare, Molly’s A Diva to Telescope. She has subsequently produced I Spy A Diva, who has won five races, obtained black type placing and is an elite mare now herself for when the time comes to retire to the breeding shed.
Winners of black type races automatically qualify as per the conditions of the scheme and a full list of the 24 stallions is available on the Elite Mares’ Scheme section of the TBA website along with the online application form - https://www.thetba.co.uk/breed-promotion/elite-nh-mares-scheme.html) or by calling Rob Davey on 01638 661321.
