The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Announces NH Stallions Taking Part in Annual Parade

The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (TBA) reveals the selection of invited National Hunt stallions that will be taking part in the annual Stallion Parade at Cheltenham on Friday, November 14th, including three new stallions for the 2015 British breeding season.

The British based EBF qualified NH stallions making their appearance in this year’s parade are: (listed in alphabetical order):

  • BLACK SAM BELLAMY
  • BRIAN BORU
  • DUNADEN
  • GENTLEWAVE
  • GEORDIELAND
  • LUCARNO
  • MALINAS
  • SCHIAPARELLI
  • SUN CENTRAL
  • UNIVERSAL

Commenting on the parade line up, Loubie Kemble, TBA, CEO, said: “The parade is smaller than in previous years however, it is very exciting to be able to offer race-goers the opportunity to see three new stallions for Britain’s National Hunt Breeders.” The new stallions featuring in this year’s parade are:

Dunaden - (Nicobar X La Marlia)

The Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup and Hong Kong Vase winner was retired to Overbury Stud this July by trainer Mikel Delzangles and owner Sheikh Fahad Al Thani. Everything about the triple Group One winner suggests he will be a successful sire.

Gentlewave – (Monsun X Saumareine)

A son of the great sire Monsun, the winner of the Gr.1 Italian Derby, runner up in the Gr.1 Irish Derby, and never worse than second in six starts for Andre Fabre’s stable, Gentlewave has taken up residence at Yorton Farm Stud.

Sun Central – (Galileo X Bordighera)

Regally bred dual Listed winner Sun Central is the foundation stallion for Elusive Bloodstock. The five-year-old is a son of Galileo and was bred by Lael Stables out of their star mare Bordighera. Trained by William Haggas, Sun Central maintained family honour when he won two middle-distance Listed handicaps at York and Chester last year.

The parade will commence at 11 a.m on Countryside Day in the Parade Ring. Each stallion will be shown individually with commentary from Director of Doncaster Bloodstock Sales, Tim Kent, and TBA Ambassador, Olympic and World Equestrian Games Silver Medal winner, eventer Tina Cook. For all mare owners intending to support British based sires in 2015 it is the ideal opportunity to view a number of stallions in one place, and discuss plans for their mares with the stallions’ connections.

The parade will last for half an hour, after which Members and their guests are invited to enjoy the use of the TBA Stallion Parade Marquee (M5 in the Tented Village) where facilities include a cash bar and light refreshments, plus the opportunity to meet TBA Ambassador, eventer Tina Cook. Stallion connections will also be on hand in the marque after the parade to answer any questions and a Silent Auction of stallion nominations, generously donated by the respective stallion owners, will be held in support of TBA NH initiatives.

The TBA would like to especially thank the Stallion Parade sponsors, the British European Breeders’ Fund (BEBF); Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (DBS) who have generously sponsored the stallion handlers’ jackets; and Weatherbys General Stud Book Ltd, for their help and support in the production of the TBA NH Yearbook, which will include a report from the NH Stars of Tomorrow Foal Show, details of the stallions at the Stallion Parade and the Elite Mares Scheme for 2015, complimentary copies of which will be handed out at the parade.

TBA Members can gain free entry to Cheltenham Racecourse on the day by producing their valid TBA membership card at the Owners and Trainers desks at either the North or Hall of Fame entrances only. Discounted badges for guests can be purchased at the special advance purchase rate of £22 per person, by contacting Cheltenham Racecourse direct on 0844 5793003 up until Thursday 6th November.
